Pied-billed Grebe: This medium-sized, stocky grebe has brown upperparts, paler brown underparts with barred sides and flanks and distinct white under tail coverts. It has a black chin, a white bill with a central black ring and dark eyes. Feeds on aquatic insects, vegetation, small fish and crustaceans. Direct flight with rapid wing beats. Sexes are similar.

Pinyon Jay: Small, crestless, stocky jay with blue-gray body. Head is darker blue and has pale streaks on throat. Tail is short. Bill, legs, feet are black. Feeds on pine seeds, grain, fruit, berries, insects and eggs and young of other birds. Steady bouyant and direct flight with deep wing beats.

Pigeon Guillemot: Medium-sized seabird with black body and large white wing patches interrupted by black bars. Wings are paler below. Bill is black, pointed, and long. Legs and feet are bright red. Feeds on crustaceans, mollusks and marine worms. Strong swift direct flight low over water.

Parakeet Auklet: Small seabird with black head and upperparts, white underparts, and distinct yellow-white plumes behind eyes. Bill is large, conical, and bright orange-red. Legs and feet are gray. Feeds on small fish, crustaceans and jellyfish. Strong direct flight with rapid wing beats.

Pine Grosbeak: Large, robust finch with red-washed black back, gray sides and undertail coverts, and pink-red rump and underparts. Head and face are pink-red; bill is heavy and black. Wings are black with two pale bars. Tail is black and slightly notched. Feeds on seeds, buds, fruits and insects.

Pacific Golden-Plover: This medium-sized plover is yellow-spotted. It has a dark brown back, black face and black underparts with white-mottled flanks; a white S-shaped mark extends from above the eye to along sides. It has a thin, short black bill and black legs and feet. Females are duller in color. Diet includes insects, worms and spiders. Swift direct flight with rapid, steady wing beats.

Purple Gallinule: Medium, chicken-like marsh bird with purple-blue upperparts washed with iridescent green, deep blue underparts. Forehead is pale blue; bill is red and yellow-tipped. Undertail coverts are white. Legs are yellow with very long toes. The flight is labored and slow with dangling legs.

Pin-tailed Snipe: Large, chunky, cryptically colored shorebird. Upperparts complexly mottled tan, brown, and black. Tail rufous. Long gray-green bill, dark brown tip. Legs, feet are gray-green. Feeds on insects, larvae, worms, seeds. Flushes in a zigzag pattern. Direct flight with rapid wing beats.

Palau Megapode: Medium-sized, brown-black megapode with a small, pointed crest, gray crown and nape, and small patch of bare red skin on throat. Short, broad wings. Rather short, yellow bill. Very short tail. Strong, medium-length yellow legs and feet with some black-gray on the feet. Sexes similar, juvenile like adult.

Palau Fruit-Dove: Small dove, gray head, neck, breast, and thighs, purple on front of crown, and purple speckles on breast. Orange belly, white-yellow on lower belly, and purple vent. Gray-green back, blue-green wings, and blue-green tail with white-yellow tip. Sexes similar. Juvenile mostly gray-green with some yellow edging to feathers in wings.

Gray Nightjar: Small, gray-brown nightjar, black streaks above, black bars below, gray-white moustache and throat. Long wings, gray-white shoulder, rufous in flight feathers, white patch in primaries. Long, black barred, gray-brown tail, gray-white tip. Female has rufous moustache and on throat. Juvenile like adult but more pale spotting.

Common Cicadabird: Medium, slender, slate-gray bird, black edging in wings, and black tail tip. White spots on undertail. Fairly long wings. Female gray above, black lores, white eyebrow and crescent below eye, white edging in wings, and white-buff below with fine bars on breast and flanks. Juvenile like female but more brown, some streaks below.

Pacific Long-tailed Cuckoo: Large cuckoo, buff barring on brown back and wings, white underparts with black-brown streaks. Black-brown mottled mask, buff eyebrow. Thick, gray-brown and yellow-olive bill. Long wings. Very long tail with black-brown and red-brown barring. Sexes similar, juvenile has more pale spots above, and finer streaks below.

Pacific Screech-Owl: Small owl with mottled brown-gray upperparts, some white markings in wings, fine streaks on white underparts. Gray-buff facial disk, small ear tufts. Yellow eyes, bill olive-yellow. Short, rounded wings and tail are barred.
